Biar Auditorium

The proposal emerges from the echo of Biar as a fortified town, where the memory of the old wall still whispers through the landscape and the shape of the village. The project does not impose itself, it continues. It is conceived as another trace in the Sierra de Mariola, bringing together past, present, and future through an architecture that acts as a threshold between history and contemporary life. The line that once marked a boundary is now transformed into an architectural gesture, naturally integrating the building into its context and vividly evoking the identity of Biar.

The site’s underlying traces — the faded wall, the medieval urban fabric, and the views toward the castle and historic towers — guide the form of the complex. Four volumes, like silent bastions, rest upon a plinth that regularizes the plot and resolves its complex geometry. The north façade engages with the narrow, stone scale of the old town, while the south façade opens toward broader views and the more recent urban fabric. The project frees the center to create a meaningful void, the auditorium and the plaza, the civic and cultural heart of the intervention.

Above the plinth, a new plaza-space emerges, conceived as an extension of Plaza Constitucional, a public plane that connects levels, people, and paths. This meeting place links the town with the landscape and proposes a symbolic transition from the open urban fabric to the historic density of the north. The intervention prioritizes universal accessibility, clarity of circulation, and the separation of pedestrian and vehicular movement, reinforcing its character as an inclusive, communal space fully integrated into the daily life of Biar.
