Ca’ Toronger

Located on the hillside of El Tosalet, in Jávea, the intervention is conceived as an opportunity to bring life back to a Mediterranean house through continuity with the existing. Rather than transforming, the project seeks to reveal: to identify the traces, proportions and underlying logics that define the house, and through a process of refinement and geometric simplicity, enhance its inherent qualities.

The house adapts to the sloping terrain through a terraced system that organizes the sequence of movement. As in the ancient Acropolis of Athens, the house is not revealed at once, but discovered progressively: turns, thresholds and openings construct a spatial sequence that frames different perceptions of both the architecture and the surrounding landscape. Always present, the line of the sea horizon accompanies and guides the gaze.

The project deepens the relationship between interior and exterior, dissolving their boundaries. Through the naya, understood as an intermediate threshold, the physical barrier is removed and a more open way of living is proposed, where daily life extends outward and the landscape becomes part of the domestic experience.

The intervention builds upon existing materials and construction systems, reinterpreted through a contemporary approach. Avoiding unnecessary gestures, the project operates through continuity, integrating the new within the existing fabric while rethinking Mediterranean tradition through a precise, essential and timeless architecture.
