Villa Berlioz

The house emerges as a contemporary reinterpretation of Mediterranean essence, conceived through a careful reading of the land, the light, and the landscape. It does not impose itself on the site; it settles, adapts, and enters into dialogue with it, transforming constraints into generators of form. The architecture thus becomes a unique piece, inseparable from its surroundings, where nature and everyday living intertwine.

The house opens to the landscape as though it were part of its own architecture. The relationship between interior and exterior is shaped through transitional spaces inspired by Mediterranean tradition. Among them, the “stoa”, inherited from classical Greek architecture, transcends its origin to become an essential element of Mediterranean dwelling: a place where shade, breeze, and landscape meet. Here it is reinterpreted as a habitable threshold, an intermediate space where architecture and nature engage in dialogue, establishing a direct connection with both the immediate environment and the distant horizon.

The patios, strategically arranged, introduce light in a controlled manner, promote cross-ventilation, and create moments of intimacy within the openness of the house. They act as intermediate pieces between rooms, dissolving boundaries and allowing life to unfold between protected interior and inhabited exterior, in a spatial continuity characteristic of Mediterranean culture.

Formally, the house is organized around a plinth rooted in the ground that supports a lighter upper level open to distant views. The lower-level merges with the garden and outdoor spaces, shaping daily life in close relationship with the earth, vegetation, and water. The upper level, in contrast, rises to capture the horizon and accommodate the most private areas, establishing a quieter and more contemplative relationship with the landscape.

Warm materials, mineral textures, and a neutral palette reinforce the connection with the surroundings and with local building traditions. The house does not seek prominence, but belonging: an architecture that, through light, proportion, and void, creates a place where dwelling becomes a way of being within the landscape.
