Villa Vereda

Between introspection and openness

Villa Vereda is located on a small residential plot in the northwest of Madrid, surrounded by a dense canopy of trees and the compact scale of the suburban single-family house. Faced with the constraints of a narrow plot and its existing planning alignments, the project turns the conditions of the site into an opportunity to construct an introverted yet open domestic architecture.

The house is organised around a simple geometric structure that allows for a flexible plan within a compact volume. Two stacked levels are articulated around a central double-height void, an open space that concentrates the shared life of the house. A main staircase is incorporated into this void as a defining and organising element, establishing a continuous relationship between the different levels and creating a fluid spatial journey, without a rigid sequence of transitional spaces.

Towards the exterior, the white brick volume adopts a quiet and abstract presence. Its openings are carefully positioned to establish precise relationships with light, vegetation and the garden. The house does not open indiscriminately, but constructs its own relationship with the landscape through a sequence of spaces, views and thresholds.

The spaces generated between the building and the boundaries of the plot therefore become an essential part of the project. The entrance, parking area, pool surroundings and intimate places for gathering among the trees are no longer understood as secondary spaces, but as part of a continuous domestic experience. From within, these spaces are visually colonised by the house, extending its perceived boundaries beyond the strictly built surface.

Villa Vereda understands the house as a framework for life: an architecture that, through precise urban conditions, constructs a balance between protection and openness, between interior and exterior, and between the built environment and the vegetation that surrounds it.
